Lined diagonally on an elevated concrete stoop, each cow has its own spot to nibble while prepared for milking.
After this process, the stoppered drug vial needs to be removed from the chamber, at which point an aluminium seal is added and then crimped. It is this last step that is the most complicated and fraught with potential error, partially because of increasing regulatory requirements. For example, regulations from the European Commission such as EMA Annex 1, which states that lyophilized drugs must be capped and crimped almost immediately after exiting the lyophilization chamber. In order to reduce the time gap between lyophilization and crimping, during which product losses can occur that lead to rejects or noncompliance with regulatory standards, pharmaceutical manufacturers are looking for innovative capping solutions. As the need for lyophilized drug products exists and continues to grow, creating solutions to improve the processes and reduce the risks associated with these challenges has become increasingly important.
The U.S. biotechnology industry has grown rapidly over the last decade and has emerged as a key customer segment for the drug discovery and development services industry. In recent years, this industry has generated significant numbers of new drug candidates that will require development and regulatory approval. Many biotechnology drug developers do not have in-house resources to conduct early stage drug development. Many new companies choose only to carry a product to a developed stage sufficient to attract a partner who will manufacture and market the drug. Because of the time and cost involved, these companies rely heavily on CROs to conduct research for their drug candidates.
Strategic alliances allow pharmaceutical companies to share research know-how and to develop and market new drugs faster in more diverse, global markets. We believe that such alliances will lead to a greater number of potential drugs in testing, many under study by small and virtual companies lacking broad technical resources. These small companies can add shareholder value by further developing new products through outsourcing, reducing risk for potential allies. Clients seek realistic business partnerships with their service provider in an effort to ensure that costs are controlled and scientific continuity is maintained as their development programs progress. We have long-standing business relationships with many pharmaceutical companies and continue to offer flexible services and adapt to our clients’ requirements.
And how does the exhaust fan perform? To test it I put a flow hood over the exhaust vent to see how many CFM were exhausted. For a baseline I opened a door so the exhaust fan had all the makeup air it needed. The hood measured a flow of 101 CFM. Next I measured the flow with all the doors and windows closed and got a 87 CFM reading. This shows that there is some restricted makeup air flow that reduces fan performance. Still, even at 87 CFM, the range exhaust fan is evacuating plenty of air to keep most of the cooking fumes and moisture vapor from lingering in the house.

In close partnership with a renowned resin manufacturer, TRB’s design and engineering team have developed a unique, proprietary carbon fiber compatible bio prepreg resin. TRB’s key criteria was that the new system needed to be extremely sustainable and enable the cost-effective manufacture of lightweight composite parts that would meet the most rigorous fire, smoke and toxic fumes (FST) criteria in subterranean rail applications.
